Cheap homes in Brisbane coastal suburbs

Flyer printing has always been an effective way for real estate agents to attract new listings, so the residents of some southern Queensland suburbs should be finding leaflets in their mail Boxes soon.

A recent article in the Courier-Mail naming the suburbs where homebuyers can expect low prices will probably prompt coastal real estate agents to order some flyer printing. The article indicates that Deception Bay and surrounding suburbs such as North Lakes, Rothwell, Burpengary and Beachmere are set to be visited by home buyers hoping to grab a cheap cottage near the sea.

While the suburbs on the Sunshine and Gold Coasts still have some bargain properties following the global financial crisis, there are some surprising bargains in some of the beach areas in the southern part of the state.

RP Data has released some figures which indicate that Queensland’s cheapest homes are on the islands in the local government area of Redland. In the year to September 2012, there were a total of 113 sales on Macleay, Lamb and Russell islands.

The suburbs of Scarness and Pialba in Hervey Bay are the cheapest of the southern mainland localities. Terry Ryder, a Queensland property analyst, says that the recent popularity of Hervey Bay as a residence for mining workers has kept home prices down.

Ray White Hervey Bay’s Tim Cox says there is a broad range of homes to choose from in the area, including suburban dwellings, luxury units and beach shacks. Mr Cox says that since 2008, average home prices in Hervey Bay have fallen between eight and ten per cent.
