A community open day is planned to mark the opening of the long awaited Moreton Bay Rail project, which was first suggested over 100 years ago.
Residents from North Lakes and throughout the Moreton Bay region are being invited to attend the Open Day.
Mayor of Moreton Bay Regional Council Allan Sutherland said the 12.6km rail project was one of the biggest infrastructure projects carried out in the region in more than a century.
He said the event will be a truly historic occasion for both the region and the residents, who now total in excess of 425,000.
The latest announcement by the Queensland Government, according to the Mayor, heralds a new era for train travellers living within the Moreton Bay Council area.
He said the new service will connect 34% of residents to a reliable, fast rail line that will provide a link to the public transport network in South East Queensland for those living in suburbs including Kallangur, Mango Hill, and Kippa-Ring.
Mayor Sutherland said locals will be able to access in excess of 650 train services running between Brisbane and Kippa-Ring each week.
The open day on October 3 will give residents an opportunity to enjoy live entertainment and food stalls, as well as to obtain Flyers and Brochures on the new service.
The new service will begin operating on October 4.
