Artists’ interpretations of the sights and objects enjoyed by North Lakes residents – and others from the Moreton Bay area of Queensland – are being showcased in the ‘Still Life - Treasures from the Collection’ exhibition.
Part of the exclusive
Moreton Bay Region Art Collection, the display incorporates the works of Thornton Walker, Vicky Taylor, Elizabeth Duguid, John Brigden, Piet Noest, Yvonne Mills-Stanley, Vida Lahey, Gregory William Grant, Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, Ray Crooke and Margaret Olley.
The selection of art on display represents each artist’s unique contemporary approach to their subjects, which cover a wide array of inanimate objects, either man-made or natural.
This form of art has intrigued creative minds for many centuries, but Western artists didn’t embrace it as a specific genre until around the 16th Century. Famous painters who practised the art included Pablo Picasso, Jan Breughel, Giorgio Morandi, Paul Cezanne and Rembrandt.
In Australia, renowned artists Gwyn Hanssen Pigott and Margaret Olley rose to fame for their still life artwork interpretations.
The Gift Basket was a particular favourite of Olley’s still life creations. It represented a basket of vegetables set on a table cloth of blue gingham.
In Hanssen Pigott’s Flutter series he succeeds in instilling a suggestion of movement by the placement of colourful ceramic pieces.
The exquisite works make beautiful images for high quality brochure printing, which is often used for advertising the exhibitions. The display runs until 10th May.
