Mayor Danny Said joined a group of local children at the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, which took place in the play space of the Frenchmans Bay Playground at the end of Mooloomba Road, overlooking the ocean.
Work on the project began early in 2020 and followed an intensive programme of community consultation. The goal, according to Mayor Said, was to create a play space where members of the community could feel right at home, and he added:
"This playground is a great opportunity for families to come down and enjoy this fabulous area. It's another wonderful reason to come and visit La Perouse."
Tourist brochure printing campaigns often list locations such as this as key Randwick City attractions.
The playground now offers visitors plenty of opportunities to spin, swing, slide, climb and jump in a fully fenced-in play area that is bright and spacious. A watchtower and wooden boat provide children with even more scope to use their imagination.
While kids enjoy the play equipment, there is plenty for adults to do too, with picnic tables and barbecues nearby, places to lay down a rug to sunbathe, as well as opportunities a quick dip in the bay. Fish and chips or a coffee are also available at nearby restaurants and cafes.
