Bare Island tour details announced

Randwick locals are preparing for a guided tour set to arrive in the area at the end of January.

Hosted by Randwick City Council, the tour will take participants on an in-depth exploration of Bare Island.

Bare Island was linked with the Goorawal and Gweagal Aboriginal groups at the time of European contact, and Captain Cook described the area as a “small bare island”.

The island has a colourful history, serving as a veterans’ home, a coastal defence area, and a backdrop for major international films.

The tour will be led by a National Parks and Wildlife Service Discovery Ranger, who will guide walkers over the iconic footbridge and share stories and facts about this significant national landmark.

Attendees are advised that there will be some exertion required, as the group will be walking distances, walking on uneven and slippery surfaces, and climbing stairs.

Organisers of community events can use promotional Pens to engage with attendees. A customised pen serves as a practical giveaway that connects a person with a brand and encourages lingering positive associations.

The Bare Island guided tour will be held on Wednesday, 28 January, 2026. There are two walking times available. The first session is from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM and the second session is from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The group will meet at the top of the path to Bare Island, Bare Island Road, La Perouse, NSW 2036. Tickets are $7. Bookings can be made through Humanitix.
