A major sporting venue in Randwick is proudly playing host to an international race designed to support a charitable foundation.
The suburb will hold Sydney’s edition of the “Wings For Life World Run” this year. The famous global athletics event was created to raise much-needed funds for the non-profit organisation, the Wings for Life Foundation, which is dedicated to the advancement of spinal cord injury research.
Non-profits and charities holding races and runs sometimes work with banner printing services that create special signage to position along the track, calling the attention of members of the public to key campaign messages.
The upcoming event doesn’t have a finish line; instead, entrants must race alongside one another to stay ahead of the “Virtual Catcher Car”. Runners can download the official run app and keep going with their peers until they get caught.
Half an hour after the race begins, the Virtual Catcher Car is unleashed, steadily speeding up until it catches the last runner.
The Sydney edition of the Wings For Life World Run will take place at Royal Randwick Racecourse on Sunday, May 10. The racecourse is based on Alison Road in Randwick and 100 per cent of all entry fees and donations will directly fund spinal cord research projects.
As well as runners, the event is also open to wheelchair athletes who can use an 100 per cent concrete route alongside the mixed terrain of the main race track, which combines concrete and turf.
