Randwick revellers given Christmas party invitation

Randwick residents looking to celebrate over the festive season can get together and party with their neighbours, with help from the city council.

Randwick City Council has announced it will once again assist with the cost of running one-off local street parties this year. The council receives a number of applications for street parties each year, mainly in December.

To help organisers, the council funds traffic control and creates temporary road closures, as well as providing public liability insurance. The funding is part of the council's aim to create positive communities and strengthen ties between the council and residents.

Randwick Mayor Councillor Noel D'Souza said the council knew many people held street parties over Christmas and New Year and that by reducing the bureaucracy and costs involved, it hoped to encourage people to party safely. He said:

"Street parties are wholesome and enriching events that bring together a wide cross section of people in the spirit of generosity and inclusion. Offering road closures and public liability insurance ensures they are as safe and enjoyable as possible."

Anyone planning a festive street party this year could use Flyers or Postcards to deliver Invitations to other homeowners, or to find volunteers to help with the organisation as well as banner printing to welcome guests.
