Randwick looks ahead 40 years

Randwick City Council has endorsed a strategy that seeks to address the area’s management and growth as well as land use over the next 20 years.

The Vision 2040 or Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) and Housing Strategy sets out planning actions and priorities required to guide the City’s growth until 2040. According to Mayor of Randwick Danny Said, the Plan was the result of extensive feedback from the community and reflected their visions.

He said that as a result of the feedback, the Plan includes strategies for a variety of social infrastructure, sustainable development, boosted tree canopy and diverse housing options. Community feedback sessions such as these are often widely advertised via flyer printing and council’s website.

According to the Mayor, other points of interest addressed in Vision 2040 ranged from one-tenth of new homes being affordable housing to the reduction of the minimum size of lots from 400 to 325 metres squared.

The plan also earmarks the introduction of low-rise townhouses and terraces in areas such as North Maroubra, Kingsford, Randwick and Coogee. Also proposed are studies on Aboriginal Cultural Heritage, Open Space and Recreational Needs, and Integrated Transport as well as a strategy for Arts and Culture.

The next step for Council is to submit the Housing Strategy and Local Strategic Planning Statement to the appropriate departments for endorsement.
