Outdoor gym receives facelift

A popular park near Randwick has much more to offer locals following a major upgrade unveiled recently.

The outdoor gym located in Burrows Park has received a facelift which includes new equipment and increased space. The upgrade was sparked last year after equipment was found to have been extensively damaged by rust and in need of being replaced.

The City of Randwick was quick to act and improve facilities at the gym. It increased the recreational space to enable the installation of new corrosion-resistant equipment for gym enthusiasts together with an impact-absorbing softfall system.

In a recent media release Mayor Danny Said stated venues such as the outdoor gym were important to people's mental health and had the ability to reduce depression and lift their mood. He added:

“Equally important is that these outdoor gyms are free to use and available for everyone. We currently have five outdoor gyms within the Randwick City area, all designed so that people with different fitness levels, ages and abilities can use them."

Brochure printing that highlights popular local attractions often includes free outdoor facilities such as the new gym.

A total of 17 equipment pieces have been installed at the outdoor gym ranging from a leg press, bench and shoulder press to chest press, recumbent bike and cross trainer plus more.

The City also has outdoor gyms at Frenchmans Bay Beach, Maroubra Beach, Kensington Park and Chifley Reserve.
