Input on nightlife draft plan invited

Public feedback is being invited on a proposed plan to enhance nightlife within the City of Randwick.

Mayor Danny Said recently appealed to residents and business owners to comment on the Randwick City Night Time Economy Study draft, which details proposed council strategies to improve and support the city’s after-dark culture.

The study comes after the initial consultation with 900 or more people and contains suggested ideas such as supporting performing arts and live music, relaxing small bar trading hours and increasing safety levels in public spaces at night.

Mayor Said welcomed comments on what is offered during the evening hours and other initiatives detailed in the draft plan.

He said the economy at night generally covered a mix of experiences, businesses and cultural, social and leisure activities and as such, leaders within these industries as well as informed community members were approached for input, adding:

“Our town and neighbourhood centres have much to benefit from a vibrant night time economy, but we also want to create spaces that feel safe for people to visit at all hours and provide people with a sense of pride in their community.”

Flyer printing has often helped to keep locals and visitors aware of day and night time activities on offer.

The draft study is available for viewing at Randwick, Malabar and Bowen libraries as well as at the Customer Service Centre of Council. The deadline for submissions is January 26.
