The recent re-opening – which followed the completion of $4.4 million of improvements – was officiated over by Mayor of Randwick Danny Said and Todd Mison, the Club President.
The iconic structure has been upgraded to include a balcony, new windows, an internal lift, facilities to provide easier accessibility, a flexible venue and events space to host functions and other community events, as well as the establishment of a sea wall to provide better protection during times of major weather events in the future.
Made possible by a grant from the NSW Government and funding from Randwick City Council, the club’s opening was a proud moment for the mayor, who said it was of great value to all the community. He added:
“It is more accessible, the internal space is flexible and can allow for a greater number of community events to be held here, it has improved the office space and facilities for the club, all while offering the most spectacular views over our coastline.”
Clubs such as the Surf Lifesaving venue have often been featured as popular local attractions on brochure printing campaigns aimed at tourists.
The mayor said the major refurbishment programme means that the club premises will go on providing a venue for people of all ages to meet for many generations into the future.
