Randwick residents are now able to check out the food safety ratings of restaurants throughout the city online.
The initiative, known as Scores on Doors, targets food businesses that are subject to surprise inspections by Environmental Health Officers of Randwick City Council. They then assess them to reflect compliance levels with hygiene and food safety requirements.
Mayor of Randwick Noel D’Souza said the voluntary programme is undertaken in conjunction with the NSW Food Authority.
Its aim is to provide diners with more choice and to promote local food businesses that maintain excellent standards in food safety.
Printing services are used to display each venue’s score, which may vary from 3 stars (good) to 5-stars (excellent).
Mayor D’Souza said the ratings for near 300 cafes and restaurants throughout the City of Randwick were now available online.
He said the area boasted some of the best food destinations in Sydney, including The Spot and a host of Asian eateries in the Kensington and Kingsford centres.
Randwick was also the nation’s first council to provide an online interactive map that lists local food businesses individual food safety ratings, he said.
In addition, Mayor D’Souza described local restaurants and cafes as being among Sydney’s cleanest, and commended them for their commitment and high standards to food safety.
He urged residents to check out the new website, which currently lists 269 businesses, of which 101 have received the top 5 star rating.
