Festival of the Winds set to fill the skies with life

Residents of the suburbs surrounding Bondi Beach, such as Bronte, Randwick, and Clovelly will soon be witnessing some strange objects flying in the skies above the iconic beach, as the annual Festival of the Winds takes place in a few days’ time.

Festival of the Winds is the largest kite flying festival in Australia, and has grown massively since it began back in 1978. The event attracts kite Flyers from across the country and the rest of the world with some displaying their highly technical flying skills and others entertaining adults and children alike with their handmade kites. With kite styles ranging from large colourful animals and cartoon characters to intricate box kites, fighter kits and a plethora of other styles, the skies above Bondi Beach will be bursting with life.

Some of the kites on display are famous in the kite-flying world and are used on Postcards, Calendars and in Brochures, so the festival offers an opportunity to see these creations up close.

The festival will include a wide range of workshops, not only in kite-making and flying but also dancing and other expressive arts. With food trucks, craft stalls and lots of children’s entertainment, this is an event with something for the whole family.

With the event running from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm this Sunday, September 11, at sites across Bondi Beach, Bondi Pavilion and Bondi Park, organisers have advised that extra buses will be running all day from Bondi Junction and Circular Quay.

You can find out more information about the event program Sunday and travel plans at the website.
