Eco Living Expo returns to Randwick

The 2019 Eco Living Expo will be held at the Randwick Community Centre next month.

It is hosted by the Randwick City Council and is entering its fourteenth year of operation. It aims to provide a fun and family-friendly introduction into ways of incorporating sustainable practices into everyday life.

Randwick City Council was recently recognised at the 2019 Local Government Awards, with the Eco Living Expo picking up the top prize in the RH Dougherty Innovation in Special Events category. The event is coordinated by council staff from a broad spectrum of departments, including events, sustainability, community service, communications, waste and maintenance.

This year’s event will include market stalls featuring environmentally-friendly products, workshops and demonstrations on decluttering and energy saving, and presentations by guest speakers including Dr Karl, the popular science communicator.

Visitors to the event are encouraged to bring their own water bottles, cups and carry Bags to reduce the amount of Packaging being used. Single-use plastic products, such as straws, cups and bottles are banned from the event to reduce the amount of rubbish ending up in landfill.

Stallholders are required to follow a list of waste and Packaging guidelines that are outlined in the Stallholder Application Form. These include restrictions on plastic Bags, polystyrene cups or plates, balloons and non-recyclable plastic utensils. Stallholders in need of compliant Packaging materials can make use of local Print shops for assistance in sourcing recycled and recyclable products, along with temporary signage and Banners to identify and promote their stalls.

This year’s Eco Living Expo will take place on Sunday 22nd September.
