Draft vision for town centre on display

Residents of Randwick City are being called upon to voice their opinions of a draft planning strategy for the town centre of Randwick Junction.

Currently on exhibition, the strategy, developed by Randwick City Council, outlines the actions required to conduct the physical development and sustainable growth of the centre, as well as the ultimate visionary outcome between now and 2035.

In addition, the draft strategy identifies and defines many public benefits, which, according to a recent media release, will include major improvements to public spaces and the public domain within the town centre. It will also promote key activation in the laneways and identify a number of sustainable approaches for architectural design and environmental conservation. The media release also stated:

"The draft Strategy also outlines a plan to guide future development and encourage renewal of existing sites and to meet future demand for commercial and retail floor space for expanding health and education services."

As part of the exhibition process of proposed planning strategies such as this, a graphic design detailing aspects of what the changes may look like has often been included to bring the concept to life and provide greater clarity.

Among key points of interest in the Randwick Junction Town Centre draft planning strategy, which is on exhibition until December 8, 2020, are proposals that focus on strengthening the centre's heritage and improving its public spaces, including a new public plaza.
