‘Marry me Olia?’ appeared in the sky over the city as Adrian Jablonski got down on one knee to propose to a very surprised Olia Mykulyshn. The 500-metre tall words were written by Robert Vance, skywriting pilot, and the rest of Newcastle stopped in their tracks to watch the proposal appear.
Olia said yes at the Burwood Lookout, the place of the couple’s first date, surrounded by the newly engaged couple’s family. The proposal remained drifting in the sky at 5 km altitude, and could be seen from people in Newcastle from 30 km away.
Olia was surprised as she thought they were there to celebrate a family member’s birthday, and Adrian said it was really hard to keep the secret from her!
“She can grasp when there's something coming, so for her to have no idea was the mission; that was the hardest part for me. I mean, the wedding is going to be a piece of cake compared to the engagement!"
As pictures and videos spread across social media over the weekend, people from across the city wished them congratulations on Twitter and Facebook.
As proposals go, this was very creative, and companies offering skywriting may make use of business card printing to advertise their services.
