Newcastle is set to welcome back an immersive event designed to transport attendees to the medieval era.

Locals looking for a chance to witness costumed knights in armour going head-to-head can soon attend the upcoming Newcastle Medieval Festival. The event is coming to the suburb in spring for its third outing and organisers promise that the 2026 edition will be even bigger than before.

Managers organising themed outdoor events often call on professional banner printing services that can create signage to specifically suit their shows.

Those coming to the festivities will find everyone attending in authentic costumes representing knights, knaves, minstrels, maidens, jesters, bards, damsels, archers and more.

Returning highlights include medieval combat, the mid-day canon firing and the Buhurt tournament, where entrants battle with blunted steel swords in armour. Festivalgoers can also enjoy a wide range of food and drinks with a medieval theme, take a turn in the stocks and witness artisan crafters like blacksmiths and woodworkers showcasing their skills.

Musicians will also be present, playing medieval music on instruments ranging from harps and lyres to flutes.

The Newcastle Medieval Festival will now run at Foreshore Park on Saturday, 5 and Sunday, 6 September. The park is positioned at 32 Wharf Road in Newcastle East. Dogs are welcome at the event providing they are on a leash.
