An Australian band who inspired many Seattle groups during the grunge music era will be performing live on stage in Newcastle early next year.
Fans of homegrown rock music in Newcastle will get their chance to see Cosmic Psychos when they play at King Street in January. The seminal punk band will be playing live at the Newcastle venue as part of their anniversary tour, celebrating four decades in the music business.

Founded in 1982, Cosmic Psychos play Australian punk rock, which heavily influenced the alternative music scene in Seattle, Washington in the 90s. Their admirers include Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, L7’s Donita Sparks, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and Buzz Osbourne of the Melvins.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Cosmic Psychos have selected a support act from Seattle for their 40th anniversary shows. The punk rock band Zeke will be appearing Down Under for the first time in two decades.
Since their debut entitled “Down on the Farm”, Cosmic Psychos have released numerous albums and had many line-up changes, but remain an iconic and impactful band in their genre.
Cosmic Psychos will be at King Street on Thursday, January 11. The venue is based at 15 Steel Street in Newcastle West, and tickets are priced at $56.65 per person.
