Construction has begun on the new Newcastle Airport International Terminal located at the Williamtown base.
The Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, turned the first sod on July 6th at the official ground-breaking launch of the Terminal Expansion Project. The $110 million dollar project is aiming to make flights available to international destinations such as the Middle East, the Pacific region and Asia, and is expected to be completed by mid-to-late 2024. It is hoped that more than 500 construction jobs will be generated by the project, along with over 4,400 airport jobs once the new terminal is completed.
Cox Architects have been responsible for designing the terminal expansion, while construction is being carried out by Construction Control, which was awarded the contract in April of this year. The Newcastle Airport may require an updated Logo Design to symbolise its new international terminal and future international flight connections.
The Newcastle Airport currently services twelve destinations across the country, including Brisbane, Cairns, the Sunshine Coast and Melbourne. It has been servicing the local NSW region since 1947 from its base in Williamtown, and flies over one million guests across Australia every year.
