Illustrations of winning entries will be the focus of billboards, bus shelters, street Banners and other advertising channels as part of the January 2022 festival.
The idea to use the work of young budding artists to create the hero artwork for the Lunar Year of the Tiger Festival is a first for the city and, according to Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore, it will provide an ideal chance to showcase the unique talents of local children while also reinvigorating the major centre. She added:
“In Chinese culture, tigers are seen as the guardian of children, so I think it’s only fitting that we hand over creative control for our Year of the Tiger Sydney Lunar Festival celebrations to our youngest citizens.”
Moore said such vibrant works of art will help transform Sydney's streets into a colourful and eye-catching gallery with artworks, activations and installations welcoming this special year on the Chinese calendar. Traditionally, the event receives great media coverage, and activities for events like this are often promoted through strategic marketing strategies such as flyer printing campaigns.
A maximum of three illustrations with an associated short description can be submitted by each entrant in the competition before entries close on 13 September.
