Families in Alexandria may benefit from council plans to expand childcare services in the area.
The City of Sydney Council has committed to building six new centres over the coming years, including one in Huntley Street in Alexandria and one in nearby Green Square, an area that is currently being revamped.
The Green Square facility will have 74 places and the Huntley Street centre is likely to be a similar size. Design work has already started on the development in Green Square, and the new centre in Alexandria is due to open in 2016.
As the facilities draw closer to their opening dates, advertising including flyer printing and poster printing could be used to attract families to book their children in.
Two other council centres are also set to be built nearby in St. Peters and Annadale, and the city’s planning unit is also working with private developers to encourage them to think about including childcare facilities in new residential and commercial buildings.
Sydney’s Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, said that with more people moving to the inner city and nearby suburbs, it was important for high-quality childcare to be available, particularly for working parents, which was why the council was fast tracking its own centres as well as working with developers.
More than 2,000 new places are scheduled to be available in the next two years.
