The project is being undertaken by the City of Sydney and will involve the transformation of an old industrial warehouse into a well-designed recreational hub for the area's many sports lovers. Early designs propose the project will comprise of a stylish exterior, a fitness space, outdoor recreation courts for practice purposes, four multipurpose indoor courts and landscaped lawns.
The Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, explained that the new facility would not only give locals and visitors an environmentally sustainable, accessible and beautifully designed sports space, but will also address an important need in what has become a busy, densely populated area. He added:
“This sports centre is sure to become another welcoming community hub for the neighbourhood. People will have the opportunity to compete in local sports competitions year-round, attend regular fitness programs or simply relax under the trees on the generous lawn.”
Recreation centres such as this are often advertised via flyer printing campaigns within the local community.
According to preliminary designs, on which work began earlier this year, the new recreation centre will be able to host badminton, gymnastics, volleyball, futsal, netball and basketball on its multipurpose courts. The proposal also includes change rooms, a kiosk, administration areas, reception and spectator seating.
Once the development has been approved, it is expected work will begin in 2022.
