The 16-day event will see a host of free activities, concerts, street performances and stalls enjoyed at key locations including the Chinatown laneways and right through to Darling Harbour.
A major event on the city’s calendar, the City’s Lunar Festival is expected to attract upward of a million people who will have an opportunity to experience the flavours, sounds and sights of Asia. The 2020 celebrations are set to feature almost 100 community-based events, according to Lord Mayor Clover Moore, who added:
“Each year this festival just gets bigger and better. In 2019 the festival attracted close to 1.5 million people who spent nearly $42 million during the event. It’s a wonderful boost for our local economy, retailers and restaurants.”
He said the event originally began in Chinatown 20 years ago. In 2020, the celebrations will focus on the Year of the Rat and include an 8m tall tower depicting nine golden rats positioned to watch over Sydney Harbour. Such major events are often advertised on brochure printing for visiting tourists.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy in excess of 95 events ranging from lion dancing to dragon boat racing. The Sydney Lunar Festival, organised by the City of Sydney, will be held from January 25 to February 3.
