The number of available large artworks set to be seen on protective fencing in busy construction zones has recently been boosted by 10, as part of the Creating Hoarding Programme. The initiative, which was introduced to help enliven streets within the city, attracted hundreds of artworks for consideration. Concepts were based around three themes including pride and expansive greening, LGBTIQA and Recognition in the public domain.
Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore said all the artistic pieces have the power to engage, delight and inspire Sydneysiders and their use provides an ideal opportunity for the talented artists to not only put their own touch of creativity to busy intersections and roads but also to showcase their outstanding works of art. She added:
“Not only does the program brighten streets and make the city a more pleasant place to visit and move through, it provides work for artists, many of whom have struggled to exhibit through the pandemic."
Artists have been responsible for many everyday creative works ranging from company logos to poster printing campaigns for which they are able to showcase their own unique style. The City's licensed contemporary, high-quality Australian artwork collection has now reached 30. During the past five years, they have featured on an estimated 220 hoardings.
