Premier of NSW Dominic Perrottet said that as part of the Anzac Memorial Scholarship, a select group of 20 students would take part in a study tour for a fortnight to historical sites of significance. The aim is for them to learn more about the role people from around Australia played in conflicts including the World Wars. He added:
“I encourage students in Year 10 and 11 with a keen interest in history to apply as this is a hands-on learning opportunity to represent their school and community.”
Perrottet said the unique experience positively complements the history syllabus of NSW's schools. Professional printing services have produced many publications on military conflicts throughout the years, and the topic is widely studied by students throughout the country.
This year's study tour is set to take place during school holidays in Term 3, with the planned itinerary to include visits to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Sydney and regional NSW. Students taking part will be accompanied by an historian on Australia's military service.
Eligible students keen to be among the scholarship recipients who will be taking part in the tours must apply online by 28 March.
