Located in a neighbourhood that is among the fastest growing in Australia, the new school is set to deliver spaces fit for the purpose of learning, together with additional facilities directed towards both community and school use.
Clover Moore, the Lord Mayor of Sydney, said the development will be located in Joynton Avenue, in the centre of the Green Square precinct, and it will include important community facilities that are to be in operation both night and day for everyone's use. He added:
"By 2030, over 60,000 people will call Green Square home. The school will serve as a lynchpin that connects our award-winning library and civic plaza, 40 new parks and the Gunyama Park Aquatic and Recreation Centre, which opened earlier this year."
A contest focusing on design excellence for the project was held to come up with the final concept, with experts from urban design, architecture and education fields determining the winner. Often, entries into competitions such as this are accompanied by a graphic design of the project.
The Lord Mayor said $25 million had been committed by the city towards establishing the facilities, which local businesses and residents will also be able to share during the hours when school is out. School Infrastructure NSW will deliver the project.
