Alexandria residents are being invited to attend a free talk to find out how to create habitat in their own backyards for urban wildlife, insects and birds.
The event is part of National Bird Week, which the City of Sydney has embraced by offering five fun and informative ways for locals to get involved.
The free ‘Create habitat for urban wildlife in your backyard’ talk is to be held on October 20 from 10am to 11:30am and will feature Birdlife Australia’s Judy Christie, who will educate participants on ways to provide homes, shelter and food for butterflies, bees, wildlife and birds.
Christie will also reveal the common fauna found in urban spaces ranging from eastern spinebills and red wattlebirds to native bees and butterflies. Species such as the red wattlebirds have often been featured on Postcards from specialist Print shops as they are among Australia’s largest honeyeaters.
All ages are welcome to attend the event which, as well as identifying common birds found in the area, will also provide tips and information on planting for insects, bees and birds. It will also cover ways to encourage small birds into your outdoor spaces and garden maintenance to inspire wildlife to remain for a longer period.
Christie will also host a tour of the Habitat Demonstration Garden at Glebe on October 27, where visitors will learn the history surrounding the creation of the garden and its many design features.Get a Free Quote for Print Get a Free Quote for Postcards
