City Christmas celebrations amp up

Christmas is set to be celebrated throughout the entire month of December with a range of festivities planned, including a special Christmas concert in Alexandria.

The Sydney of City has put together a lively programme that will include everything from performers, choirs, trees and concerts to fireworks, decorations, markets and appearances by Santa.

Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, welcomed the return of pre-pandemic Christmas celebrations which gave people a chance to celebrate in a big way, adding:

"This Christmas we’re excited to welcome everyone back to soak up the festive spirit, with a month-long programme of free events to festivities celebrating the unique joy of Christmas in the southern hemisphere.”

A full month of celebrations, which in the past have often been widely publicised via poster printing campaigns, will kick off on 26 and 27 November when Martin Place will be transformed to become a festive wonderland with carollers, roving performers, decorations and Christmas markets. Choirs will also perform at Pitt Street Mall and Martin Place, followed by daily performances between 1 and 24 December.

The Christmas markets, offering produce, food and gifts in over 40 stalls, will also continue to be held until Christmas, from Thursday through to Saturday each week, while locals will also be treated to Christmas concerts at Alexandria, Glebe, Rushcutters Bay, Rosebery, Surry Hills and Pyrmont.

Stalls offering craft, art, food, homewares and fashion, plus live music will also feature at Green Square's Christmas fair to be held on 3 December.
