Memory Project kicks off in Greenfield area

A new project in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties is bringing some welcome relief to people with memory problems and their families.

The Memory Project is aimed at providing a social outlet for those with early onset dementia or cognitive impairment, while providing a safe atmosphere.

The project is organized into four locations called memory cafes. The cafe will be held monthly, with the location rotating between the four, and will provide some small refreshments combined with fun and safe programs for people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, other Forms of dementia, memory problems, or cognitive impairment and one family member or care partner.

Kicking off this month, it will also feature a talk by John T. McFadden, the man who brought the concept of the memory cafe to the United States from England.

The Memory Project is jointly sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association and the Public Libraries of Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. The mission of the project is to help those with memory loss by providing social gatherings, as well as educational programs on memory impairment and brain health.

The Memory Project kickoff party will be held on January 19 at the New Berlin Public Library at 2:00 pm. Admission is free, and light refreshments and informational Brochures will be provided. Anyone interested in more info should check the website for more information.
