This year’s Milwaukee Walk To Defeat ALS 2K was held in Greenfield Park on October 8, and saw ALS families, patients, and supporters come together to show solidarity with those currently battling the disease, and also to honor those who have been lost to it. Proceeds benefited the Wisconsin chapter of the ALS Association.
Registration started at 8:00 am, with the walk itself beginning at 10:00 am. Participants were encouraged to share photos and stories on social media, using the tag #vsALS to raise awareness of the event itself. Many attendees decided to do so, showcasing who they were walking for, and in some cases displaying custom business gear with logo designs to promote their businesses or sponsors.
The vsALS hashtag celebrates the stories of those who are currently struggling with ALS, while also showing the sadness and loneliness from those who are left behind.
While the walk itself was the primary focus of the event, many other elements were included to entertain the attendees. There was live music, free food and drink, and more. Attendees also received a special T-shirt to commemorate the event. Individuals and teams donated to the fundraiser, including many businesses and corporate sponsors.
