The Milwaukee Bonsai Society is offering the 2024 Fundamentals Class near Greenfield next month for those just delving into the world of bonsai cultivation.
The class series will help students who are in the beginning stages of learning about growing bonsai as a hobby. It will be led by Ron Fortmann and will run through February and into March and April.
Each class will go over fundamentals to help attendees expand their knowledge of bonsai practices, techniques, and styles. Attendees will learn about the history of bonsai, bonsai-specific terms, tools used with bonsai, bonsai soil, and bonsai styles and horticulture. Students will also learn the rules of bonsai, how to select the correct pot, and how to report and fertilize their bonsai trees.
People present will work from a text during the workshops, as well as having hands-on training with an actual bonsai tree in their fourth and fifth session. Workshop series like this that work from a text may require that event organizers visit their local Print shops specializing in services such as brochure printing.
The bonsai fundamentals class is scheduled to begin on Saturday, February 10 and run through Saturday, April 27. It will be held at Boerner Botanical Gardens located at 9400 Boerner Drive, Hales Corners, just minutes from Greenfield. Tickets are $200 per person.
