Greenfield area tour to highlight important historical women

Forest Home Historic Preservation Association will host the Untold Stories: Women of the 1800s Walking Tour for anyone in Milwaukee, Greenfield, and the surrounding communities interested in learning more about important women figures in the city’s history.

The walking tour will take place on the grounds of the Forest Home Cemetery, which is Milwaukee’s oldest operating cemetery and is on the National Registry of Historic Places. The tour will be a brisk one-and-a-half-mile walk traversing uneven cemetery paths, so organizers recommend that guests wear comfortable shoes and be cautious when walking.

Guide and author Anita Pietrykowski will lead the tour and will discuss the contributions of important women who shaped the early history of the area. Attendees will learn about the women who founded the Children’s Hospital, the Soldier’s Home, and the Victorious Charge, a Civil War monument. Historical women who will be featured include Meta Schlinchting Berger, Susanna Watson, Dr. Laura Ross, Wolcott, Lydia Ely, and Elizabeth Plankinton.

Walking tours will often include Brochures for the participants to follow along with, and these Brochures can be printed in bulk at shops specializing in brochure printing services.

The historical walking tour is scheduled for June 4 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Forest Home Cemetery is located at 2405 West Forest Home Avenue, Milwaukee, just five miles from Greenfield. Tickets are $10.
