The Mary Chapa Academy is an art school located in Greenfield that aims to help students develop their natural artistic talents, while boosting their critical thinking skills and creativity. The Rock Band put on a show that included two songs called “Tourette’s” and “Pale Ghost.”
Michael Farrer, the school’s Vice Principal stated that:
“Our rock band is led by Daniel Salazar, our intervention aide. Daniel is an amazing musician and he is sharing his talent with kids from our school in grades fourth through sixth. With the help of Daniel and the Monterey Arts Council, we have taught 75 students this year and put guitars in the hands of 75 students.”
The school used this May 31 showcase as a way to get people interested in joining the school’s music program. Salazar is in charge of running the Guitars Not Guns class, which is curated by an organization that has given the school 75 guitars as Corporate Gifts.
Other performances at the academy’s Arts Day event included a poem by Natalie Luna about how she hopes to achieve her dreams and live in a peaceful world, and a song taken from 101 Dalmatians called “My Beautiful Coat.”
