Seattle session to help put gardens to bed
Savvy gardeners know that the work they put into their garden in the fall often pays large dividends the next year, and a workshop planned for Seattle will make this easier for area outdoor growers.
The team at Tilth Alliance has prepared a workshop that will explore the benefits of putting a garden to bed in the fall. It will be a single session, and it can accommodate up to 15 learners.
The class will explore how and when to harvest a crop and what to do with the plants once they have died back. The value of soil health and how testing can be a useful tool will be discussed, and using cover crops as a form of “green manure” is also on the agenda. As the activity will take place outdoors, everyone is reminded to dress for the weather.
Learning some horticultural skills can be a lot of fun, especially when it is done as part of a larger group. A flyer printing company will be happy to help get the word out about any planned activity for a community.
This introduction to the value of putting a vegetable garden to bed for the winter will begin at 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 21. It will be on offer at 4649 Sunnyside Avenue North. Attendees can pay between $30 and $65 depending on their financial situation.
