Seattle's KeyArena renovation edges closer to reality

A $700m KeyArena renovation project appears to finally be moving forward without opposition.

This comes after a September 13 deadline challenging the environmental review of the project expired without any organization or individual issuing a statement.

The project, which is set to begin with the demolition of the current center sometime in December, is awaiting confirmation that an NHL expansion team will be awarded to the city following a bid by a local group of prospective team owners. This currently stands as the only stipulation set forth by the City of Seattle regarding the project.

Issued on September 9, this concession follows several years' worth of high-profile debate, with amendment after amendment reshaping the original deal.

Local business owners, particularly those who run companies in the immediate vicinity of the current arena, remain optimistic that the new arena will not only go forward as planned, but will provide a much-needed boost in revenue. Indeed, local bars and restaurants are not the only ones who will be anxious to see what the project brings, but local Print shops and graphic design companies will keep a close eye on developments too, as they are often are called upon to create Promotional Products for pro sports teams.

The Oak View group, which is heading the project, claims it can have the building ready to go by 2020 providing the team encounters no more hurdles.
