Seattle explores plant propagation for home gardeners

Propagating plants can be done in a variety of ways, and a Seattle session will explore these in person.

The Botanic Gardens at the University of Washington provides the public with opportunities to learn, be inspired and just enjoy floral beauty, and it will be sharing secrets of plant propagation during a workshop it has scheduled for early April. The all-inclusive class fee is $40.00 each, and the attendees will find out how they can increase their plant collection without breaking the bank.

The facilitator for the session will cover methods ranging from seed starting to propagation by rooting cuttings, root division and layering. The session will be guided by a subject matter expert, and everyone will go home with helpful tips as well as a new group of gardening friends. Propagation starts and a glass propagation vessel are included.

Home horticulturalists are often eager to pick up some new skills, and a class may provide a fun opportunity to do so. Print shops can use comb binding and other techniques to prepare manuals for a learning activity.

The Douglas Research Conservatory at the Center for Urban Horticulture in Seattle will be offering this introduction to the basic principles of plant propagation on April 9th. Everyone is asked to arrive by no later than 6:00 pm, and the registration system may be accessed through the Garden’s website.
