Carnivorous plants have adapted to survive in poor soils with low nutrient levels, and they will be the stars of the show during an event planned for the Seattle area.
Venus flytraps, sundews, and pitcher plants all supplement their “diet” by catching and absorbing insects, spiders, and other small animals. The participants in the class, which is being hosted by Urban Sprouts, will be using an assortment of these species to create living dish gardens, and full instruction will be provided.
The group will be able to choose from a variety of flora to use in their terrarium’s ecosystem, and there will also be accessories so they can create a custom planting. The ticket price of $35 includes the services of a facilitator as well as a credit which can be used to purchase materials for the project. This way, the registrants can create a garden that suits their personal budget, as the cost will depend on which items they select.
A class focused on home horticulture may provide an introduction to the basics of plant care. Tip sheets and other items for a session can be prepared by area Stationery printers.
Renton’s Urban Sprouts will be offering this in-person plant workshop on January 27. Everyone who reserves a seat is asked to be on site by no later than 6:30 pm.
