Art Deco exhibit continues in Seattle
The exhibit ‘Deco Japan: Shaping Art and Culture, 1920 – 1945’ is showing in Seattle until October.
This is the first traveling exhibit on the subject that has taken place outside of Japan. It features 200 works from the collection of Robert and Mary Levenson and includes sculptures, prints, ceramics, jewelry, furniture, and graphic ephemera. It is curated by Xiaojin Wu. Among the artists whose work is featured are Noguchi Tsurukichi, K. Kotani, Takamura Toyochika, and Sasaki Shodo. It is expected to show the influence of the art deco movement on Japanese culture of the ‘20s and ‘30s. Visitors can also purchase a catalog of the exhibit.
Those who work for Seattle printing companies are often interested in exhibits such as these. It gives them a chance to study the history of some printing techniques, and to find a way to incorporate some of the aspects into their own works in the future.
‘Deco Japan’ is on display at the Asian Art Museum's Tateuchi Galleries until October 19th. The gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00am - 5:00pm or until 9:00pm on Thursday. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors; it is free to seniors on the first Friday and to all on the first and second Thursday of each month. To find out more about the exhibit, call 206-654-3100.
