'Low brow' art makes for a unique exhibit at Workhouse Arts

Workhouse Arts and the Urban Art Syndicate is presenting Urban Decay 4 for two months this summer. The exhibit concentrates on what is known as ‘low brow urban art’, which includes such things as comic Books, punk rock, tattoos, and street graffiti.

The exhibit will feature nationally-known artists and is curated by Debra Yarrington of the Urban Art Syndicate. A major part of the show is a vinyl toy display; the public can submit pieces to be included in this display by registering by May 26 and paying $20.

The show will be kicked off with an artist panel discussion led by Debra Yarrington and an opening reception later that day. The reception will feature performances by hip-hop artist Kenny Wells, Lightspeed Rescue, and the DJ Expansion Broadcast.

It is likely that the exhibit will be widely advertised in the area which includes, nearby Vienna. This will probably come in the form of Posters and Flyers which will be distributed throughout the community, seeing as such printing services offer an effective way to reach a high number of people in a relatively short period of time.

Urban Decay 4 will be showing at the McGuireWoods Gallery in Lorton from June 1 - July 28. The artist panel discussion and the opening reception will take place on June 8, beginning at 5:00 pm. For more information, contact the Workhouse Arts Center at 703-584-2900, or have a look at its website.
