Virginia state Senator Janet D. Howell has chosen to remove an amendment that would have blocked state funding of $165m or more from the Metro system unless it renamed McLean rail station for Capital One.
The legislation required the Silver Line station in McLean to be renamed “McLean-Capital One Hall”, the name reflecting the performance venue being constructed next to the station by Capital One bank.
Signage and Logo Design play an important role in promoting and branding a company or other organization.
Capital One’s interest in attaching its new theater’s name to the McLean station was not matched by Metro. Despite offering to cover the cost of the necessary signage change and having the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors’ support, Metro nixed the idea.
As part of a compromise, Metro will place Signs inside the station to direct people to the Capital One Hall and will speed construction of another entrance, to be paid for by Capital One, to provide Capital One Hall patrons with better access to the McLean Station. Capital One’s name will not appear on the station, which will nevertheless receive its dedicated funding from the state.
The new Capital One Hall will have a seating capacity of 1,600 and will host concerts, symphonies, plays, and other major events. Opening of the $120m facility is anticipated to be in the fall.
