The Richardson school board has given the go ahead to spend $6 million of the $103.76 million dollars Pearce High School construction budget on the renovation and expansion’s first phase.
According to the Community Impact Newspaper, the preliminary phase for the school’s improvements includes the creation of a new softball field, turf installation on an already existing baseball field and increasing the number of parking spaces.
Some municipalities feel that having Print shops create and distribute pamphlets detailing how taxpayer funds are spent as well as from where additional funds are being received makes for a more contented voter base.
Of the remaining $103.76 million reserved for Pearce High School improvements the remaining $97.76 million following phase 1 will be used for constructing additions to accommodate an increase in students, upgrade existing infrastructure and systems, renovating classrooms, and upgrading and reconfiguring existing spaces.
Among the new spaces to be created are a one-story southeast wing addition and a two-story addition to the existing high school building’s northwest corner. An additional 9,000 square feet will be added to the building’s size with the one-story addition; plus, the building’s size will increase by 25,000 square feet with the two-story addition.
The funds for this project will come from the $750 million bond issue that was approved by Richardson voters in May. The completion date for the project is anticipated to be in August 2024.
