Richardson police chief set for retirement

Chief of Police, Jim Spivey, recently announced that he would be bringing his over half century of public safety service to an end.

May 31 will be Spivey’s final day as head of the Richardson Police Department; a job he has held since August 2009. The Chief was hired in 1995 in the position of Captain after serving nearly 25 years on the Dallas Police Force.

In addition to the ordering of Business Cards that often accompanies a job change, when the “changing of the guard” occurs at the top of an organization, a company’s letterhead will likely undergo a change as well.

At the announcement, Chief Spivey made the following statement:

"I have been honored to serve the citizens of Richardson with this great organization of men and women dedicated to public safety. I am proud of the work we have accomplished during my service and I take comfort knowing that the great work done by the department is going to continue well into the future."

Dan Johnson, Richardson City Manager, praised Spivey and his years of working to keep the city safe.

Selecting a new police chief is a process that is just beginning. Strategies for recruiting applicants are under discussion and according to Johnson, city officials will, over the next few weeks, settle on a selection process for the new police chief.
