A favorite Dallas pop-up has chosen Richardson as the place to set down roots, specifically on Terrace Drive off Greenville Avenue, near the DFW Chinatown center.
Specializing in authentic Japanese cuisine, Okaeri Café, which is co-owned by Michelle Pepping and Gene Tran, debuted in 2020. Posting the menu online, the duo accepted orders and then designated a window for pickups. Especially popular were the eatery’s bento Boxes, containing mounds of rice and curry molded into mini-bear shapes with ears, eyes, and a nose fashioned from seaweed.
The Okaeri Café has also introduced other authentic Japanese dishes such as the trendy Omurice, a fusion dish featuring a dome of fried rice covered by a soft omelet; and okonomiyaki pancakes containing scallions, shredded cabbage, and meat or seafood.
Introducing a new establishment like this to a neighborhood can be particularly easy when a banner printing service is utilized.
Pepping, the owner of local Cajun eatery Tasty Tails, and Tran, who resided in Japan for several years, spent over two years developing the concept for Okaeri Café with the objective of turning it into a brick-and-mortar location.
In addition to the Japanese dishes for which the Café has become known, an entire coffee program will be incorporated as well. Pepping has long yearned for a coffee shop of her own, and acccording to Tran, the pair will be offering high-quality Japanese teas as well.
Pepping and Tran anticipate opening Okaeri Café in the fall.
