Library gets new van for activities

The Richardson Library is going to receive a new mobile vehicle that will be tasked with assisting community-related activities.

Staff at the Richardson Public Library used additional grant cash totaling $35,000 to complete an outreach van. The plan for this van was brought to the Richardson City Council at a meeting held at the end of January. The project's initial financing came from earlier savings in the municipal capital replacement fund.

A city press release states that when the van is ready for use, its primary function will be to facilitate events such as local learning laboratories, mobile story times, and drives to get more people to sign up for library cards. The Friends of the Library organization donated $30,000, while the Richardson Rotary Club contributed $5,000.

According to the press release, the community outreach van meets one of the 30 goals outlined in the library's strategic plan for 2024–2029. A presentation from the council clarified that the initiative will be overseen by one staff member at the library, and every staff member will participate in at least one outreach van event each year. Staff and rotation schedules can be printed for display using Stationery printers.

The municipal experts are presently working on the vehicle, installing storage space, shelves, and additional safety measures. Officials anticipate that activities for the outreach vehicle will start in April.
