2021 bond issue in the works

As Richardson city officials are concluding the last projects funded by the 2015 bond program, they are concurrently putting together plans for the next referendum, which might be voted on in November 2021.

The 2015 municipal bond issue provided $115m to cover improvements to public buildings, parks, sidewalks, and streets and was to be in effect for six years. Using brochure printing services can make it easier to get bond issues approved.

A couple of major projects that are still to be done are enhancements to City Hall and the public library. That these projects were left till last works out well as the new safety and hygiene procedures will have to be considered when planning the improvements. It is expected that recommendations for the buildings will be submitted for review in October 2020.

Seven of 2015’s approved street projects are still under construction or in their design phase. Overruns of the 2014 cost estimates have the remaining road projects $7.5m short, and an additional $2.5m is needed to finish construction of the new Richardson Public Safety Campus and $625,000 for the Richardson Senior Center renovations.

Over the next few years, potential projects will be considered for the November 2021 election with improvement recommendations gleaned from several ongoing studies. If the new bond package is approved in November 2021, the projects would start in 2022 and be ongoing through 2026.
