Plano farm museum to introduce feathered friends

Agriculture can teach many lessons, and the Plano kids who participate in an activity hosted at the Heritage Farmstead Museum will be able to meet some of their feathered friends up close.

The Heritage Farmstead Museum offers kids and their parents alike opportunities to learn about farming and agriculture, including its history and future. Its Little Farmer Fridays: Beaks and Bills session will explore poultry and other birds, and the fun will be hands on.

Children who attend the activity will be invited to meet the museum’s flock of friendly free-range chickens, and there will also be turkeys, ducks, and even guinea fowl on hand as well. They will learn how to grind corn and then hand feed the birds, and story time, games, a hayride, and a chance to make a handmade bird feeder to take home are all on the agenda. The registered families can drop by between 10:00 am and 12:00 noon.

Learning about agriculture can give kids a greater appreciation for where the food on their table comes from. Promotional Pens and other items to give to the attendees in a particular activity will be available at area Print shops.

The Heritage Farmstead Museum in Plano is offering this activity on May 19. More details and a registration link for interested families can be found on the museum’s website.
