Mansfield to welcome grocery giant

Grocer H-E-B has just broken ground on the site where its first store to operate in Mansfield will be located.

The company held an event to celebrate the ground-breaking. It was attended by about 150 people, including state and city officials, who braved a cold, icy morning. The company’s senior director of public affairs, Mabrie Jackson, was not bothered by the 38°F temperatures and quipped:

“In Lubbock, we had subzero temperatures and sleet for the ground-breaking and the opening. This is nice and warm, it’s like the Bahamas. It’s always a good day when you break ground on an H-E-B.”

The new store will be located on East Broad Street. Construction on the facility started a week after the ground-breaking ceremony and it will cover 118,000 square feet of space. The store is expected to be open to the public in about 15 months. H-E-B purchased the site in 2016 and the locals have had to wait a long time for the store to start being built. Poster printing can be used at construction sites to let people know what is happening.

Officials from H-E-B told the public that it has plans to engage with the community. The company recently presented Checks worth $10,000 to Erma Nash Elementary School, Willie Brown Academy, The LOT, Urban Truth, and the Mansfield Women’s Club. When open, the store will have a drive-thru pharmacy, a deli, and a bakery.
