Mansfield bibliophiles all read same book

Friends of the Mansfield Public Library will be holding their annual Mansfield READS! 2020 during March and April, inviting locals to explore the wonder of the written word.

As a community-building effort, their aim is to get all adult Mansfield readers to read the same book, all at the same time. Numerous programs will be presented during this time to raise awareness and celebrate this year’s book choice. The kick-off event will be held in early March.

This year’s book is titled The Last Child. Its author, John Hart, is a two-time winner of the Edgar Award and has a number of other accolades, including the North Carolina Award for Literature.

The reading experience will begin with a party March 5 starting at 6:00 pm at Market Street, 3145 E. Broad Street. All book lovers are invited to attend an evening of music, d’oeuvres courtesy of Market Street, and a book discussion. Adults can also try their hands at craft projects and a book-themed quilling program. The kids will have their own crafts, and all can join in making bicycle jewelry.

The winning photo of the READS photo contest will be revealed during the evening. Winners of contests like this one often take their original photos to local Print shops for Copies to send to relatives and friends.

No registration is required to attend, and the event will be free.
