Fewer than 1 out of 100 high school students nationwide have been designated semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship Program, and three students from Mansfield ISD are among them.
This accomplishment has been attained by Vincent Nguyen and Jeremy Jennings who are both enrolled in Lake Ridge High School, and Dylan Luong who studies at Mansfield High School. Academic achievement awards and up to $28 million worth of college scholarships are on offer through the National Merit Scholarship Program. Results from 2022's Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test were used to choose the semifinalists. This test used to screen applicants assesses critical reading comprehension, mathematical problem-solving capabilities, and writing proficiency. Companies that wish to promote learners can donate items such as promotional Pens.
Only 16,000 learners from 1.6 million applicants from all over the county are chosen as semifinalists. Out of these semifinalists, 15,000 will be chosen as finalists in February of 2024. A National Merit Scholarship be awarded to around half of those candidates.
Finalists need to have an exceptional academic record, a high school official's recommendation, compose an engaging essay, and have SAT results that attest to their success on the prerequisite test.
The National Merit Scholarship Program was established in 1955 to recognize and reward academically gifted American kids and to inspire them to maximize their potential. This test used to screen applicants assesses critical reading comprehension, mathematical problem-solving capabilities, and writing proficiency. The overall number of applicants and each state's share of the country's overall graduating seniors are taken into consideration when selecting the semifinalists.
