Fire Department set to make a safety event splash

The City of Mansfield Fire and Rescue and Mansfield Police Department (MPD) will be presenting its second annual Safety Palooza Open House early next month. The event will once again be free of charge.

Local vendors will be on site, as will the Jr. Firefighter Challenge obstacle course for kids. Children will also get to use a fire hose, participate in a simulated chopping exercise, crawl through a tunnel, run up and down an incline, and pull a heavy load of gear. Fire trucks will also be on display of course, and firefighters will be on hand to answer questions.

The MPD will be hosting the Pedal Car Driving Course and the Duck Dynasty Safety Clown Show. A Dewalt Tools Challenge will be held to show off handymen’s skills. The fire team, meanwhile, will be demonstrating extractions from motor vehicles and how to put out grease fires.

The kids’ area will be sponsored by Lowes and the Home Depot. Bounce Houses will keep the little ones jumping. There will also be a medical helicopter fly-in and the chopper will be on display as will the The Live-burn trailer. The event will have many activities that should make good subjects for safety poster printing.

The event will be held October 4, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, at the Mansfield ISD Center for the Performing Arts, 110 West Debbie Lane, Mansfield.
